Oceania threads is a Decolonial Clothing Project by Vehia Wheeler and Will Giles.
Our goal is to create clothing and conversation around Pacific thinkers and revolutionaries who have influenced the Oceania. We imagine a different sort of world, one where schools have been founded based on their teachings. Decolonizing educational structures with Oceania values. Our first two designs are inspired by Haunani-Kay Trask, Katerina Teaiwa, and Teresia Teaiwa.
A portion of the proceeds from every sale will go towards activist and scholarship funds in the Pacific. To start, we will be donating to the Kia'i on Mauna Kea.
Because our project is ultimately about education, and we are often underrepresented in these spaces, we will be curating an annual curriculum drop featuring pacific scholars and artists who carry the teachings of these celebrated kūpuna. We hope this will spotlight contemporary leaders, while also providing structured, culturally relevant curriculum to teachers who would like to incorporate Pacific subjects into the classroom. Please submit any pitches to email@example.com
Our next wave of designs will be released in December.
